Marina Kurian, MD

Marina Kurian, MD, has dedicated a significant part of her professional life to the treatment of obesity and making surgery less painful with minimally invasive techniques. She currently sees patients at New York Minimally Invasive Surgery, PLLC, with locations across New York City in the Financial District and Upper East Side of Manhattan; Astoria, Queens; Williamsburg, Brooklyn; and Staten Island. She also sees patients at the practice’s additional locations in Harrison, Great Neck, and Lake Success, New York.

In addition to treating patients, Dr. Kurian has educated other surgeons in New York City and throughout the country, and has published numerous articles on minimally invasive surgery. In her practice, she offers numerous alternatives for severely obese individuals. These include minimally invasive gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Band, biliopancreatic diversion, and revisional procedures. All with an emphasis on lowering postoperative discomfort and accelerating recovery.

Dr. Kurian continues to be an innovator in the field of obesity and minimally invasive surgery in New York City. She was a principal investigator for the use of the adjustable band for the treatment of morbid obesity and co-investigator on the use of vagus nerve stimulation for the treatment of obesity. Dr. Kurian has presented articles and given talks throughout the world. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). She is also a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and the Association of Women Surgeons. She has numerous publications and book chapters in laparoscopic literature.
